Makeup mishaps and how to prevent them

Good makeup days come once in a blue moon and when it looks good, it looks really goddam good! However, all makeup lovers will have experienced times when our makeup is the furthest thing from on point and we just can't get it right.

1. Mascara more often than not can ruin your look. Applying mascara must be one of the most straight forward things to do when it comes to applying a full face of makeup but why is it when you have finally achieved eyelash perfection your bodily functions take over and the ability to hold in a sneeze becomes impossible, resulting in you looking like a panda.

TO AVOID THIS HAPPENING: Put makeup on your eyes before you do your face makeup. This will make it easy for you to wipe away and mistakes such as fall down from eyeshadow and the mess left behind from your unfortunate sneeze.

2. Applying foundation that you think is your colour until it oxidises. You go to the shop and you are under the impression that the colour foundation you just paid an arm and a leg for is the perfect shade for your skin. Then low and behold your foundation is five shades darker that you originally purchased. Oxidisation happens when the minerals and fats in foundation react with the pigments in the skin and can end up looking yellow/orange and way too dark for your skin.

TO AVOID THIS HAPPENING: When matching your shade, ask a professional. they will know what foundation oxidises and which do not. If there is no-one around, swatch on your neck and give it a couple of minutes. If it doesn't change colour, job well done.

3. Them ones when your eyebrows don't even look like distant relatives, let alone sisters. Eyebrows can take months to perfect and by the time you've managed to even make them look like cousins, there is a new trend and you're back to square one.

TO AVOID THIS HAPPENING: Unfortunately, when it comes to eyebrows, practice makes perfect and you just have to find something that works for you. Try a few different products. There's plenty on the market. Gels, powders, pomades, pencils... the list goes on.

4. Sometimes, makeup has an inability to stay on the nose, especially if you suffer from extremely oily or extremely dry skin around your T-zone. This can be absolutely heartbreaking when the rest of your makeup is looking so fire.

TO AVOID THIS HAPPENING: Prime the nose with something suitable to your skin. For oily skin try something along the lines of Benefit Porefessional and for dry skin, something really moisturising like E.l.f Cosmetics Hydrating Face Primer. Take quite a thick concealer, such as MAC Pro Longwear concealer and focus on filling those pores on the nose before you do anything else. Then continue with your normal makeup routine and you should see a great improvement.
